The words that I ate today.

I ate some words today that I said a few months back to Brent. We were laughing about how my Mom had run out of gas on I-15 in Utah with my grandma (sorry that we laughed at you Mom!) and that she said she didn't know what to do because she had never run out of gas. I said to Brent... and this is probably a direct quote, "I don't think I will ever run out of gas - in my whole life. Nope. Not me!" In fact, I even have secretly prided myself in seeing how long I can drive once the gas light has already gone on. What can I say? That's just me for ya. Well, people, obviously I was humbled at that today because I ran out of gas a 1/2 mile from our house! I had groceries and a crying Brookie-bear, it was 105 degrees outside and SO humid. For a second I panicked. Can you believe that I actually panicked? I can't believe it now and this happened only an hour ago. I mean it's not like the pioneers didn't WALK miles each day in this kind of weather CARRYING their babies. Obviously I was not cut out to be born in that time period. Luckily there is a woman in our ward that lived just around the corner, who had just happened to trim my bangs an hour earlier! I should have payed her more because she watched Brooke and let me drive her car to go and get our other car (luckily Brent carpools to work and this is not his week to drive!) and switch everything in it. Now the altima is sitting on the street with hazard lights on while Brooke sleeps and I sit here blogging about it. Hope Brent gets here in time to go and get it before the city tows it!!!

Airplane Bathrooms

I have never thought much of an airplane bathroom. In fact, I try my very hardest to make sure I use the restroom in the aiport before boarding the plane, in order to avoid the bathrooms on an airplane. Plus, the last time I did end up having to use them, which was strictly out of emergency, I could not get out. I am serious! I guess I was confused at the "pull" sign from the inside. I know it seems ridiculous but I really could not get out and Brent was outside the door standing behind a lady who was waiting for me laughing his guts out because he knew what was going on on the other side of the door when he saw it shaking back and forth. That's a different story, though. Anyways. Yesterday, Brooke and I took the 2 hour and 45 minute flight to Texas. She has flown about 8 times in her short life and this was the worst of them all! Twenty minutes into the flight, she went #2. And not only did I know it, but most of the people around me knew it. Why? A) the (obvious) smell and B) oh.. ya know, just the loud grunting for about 5 minutes before the "stuff" finally came. And I'm so glad the teenage girl sitting next to me thought it was so funny that she had to text her friend about it. Which at that point, I thought, "don't we turn cell phones off inflight?" Ugh. So, what was I left to do? Go and change the sick diaper, of course.. in the airplane bathroom-DEATH! First thought: "Let's just hope I can change the diaper without getting "poop" everywhere, oh and that I don't get stuck in there with a baby!!" We went in, I proceeded to make her a pillow out of 20 papertowels, and she still hit her head when I layed her down on top of the toilet seat (sick!). I took off the diaper, surveyed the damage, wiped as quickly and efficiently as possible, all while the look on her face said, "Mom, you have no idea what you're doing and I'm really uncomfortable. Well, before I could wipe it all off, move the dirty diaper, she had flipped over and stood up. Great. Now there was "poop" on my arms, her leg, she was standing (barefoot) on an airplane restroom toilet seat and starting playing with the GARBAGE dispenser! Could she have been more exposed to terrible germs and diseases at this point??? Yes, she could of and here's why: She went "#1" all over the toilet seat, and it ran down onto the floor. Oh and then she starting sliding around in it in her barefeet. Worst nightmares had come true. I did my best to clean off her "#1" and then stuffed the 40 paper towels I had used at that point plus her dirty diaper in the trash. I tried washing her feet and legs off in the sink with soap but it wasn't long before she started splashing around everywhere with her arms. Main objective at this point: get her dry, make sure the pee is cleaned off the toilet seat, and get the heck out of that airplane bathroom. Mission accomplished. And in case you were wondering: we did make it out of the bathroom with no trouble using the handle that time. Thank heavens.
P.S. We are happily in our new house and went to church today. It was lovely and it feels great to be here. Exciting times to come as we start this new stage in our lives!

My guilty pleasure... got me!

Today has been a beautiful day and I went out to run errands. I decided to stop and walk around 4th street, one of my favorite places in Berkeley. And even better, one of my top five favorite stores just happens to be there. First of all I couldn't find parking in the lot (typical) and so I went with the metered street parking. I put in my quarters and I was off to shop, or window shop at least. As I walked through the store, salivating over every single item, I kept thinking that I needed to get back to my car because the money would run out. Well, then I found a pretty little something that I wanted... bad. I sat there, vascillating over whether or not I should purchase it (it was on the sale rack). I gave in and bought it. Happily leaving the store with bag in hand and pushing the stroller, I walked back to my car. Low and behold, I had a TICKET!! Turns out the ticket is the exact amount that I payed for my "pretty little something." Isn't that just so annoying? Next time, I probably ought to just either stay away from that store, or wait until someone leaves in the parking lot. Oh well, I'm not letting this get me down! The weather is fantastic, Valentine's day is coming up, and family is coming to visit this weekend. Life is still good.

Halloween Memory Lane

So, I was going through old pictures today and found a picture of Brent and I at the Halloween party of some friends (shoutout to the Andrews!) two years ago. The party was fantastic but the experience of when we got there and walked in was a little embarrassing. I remember there had been a BYU game that day and we had got home late, with barely enough time to throw together costumes. I think I asked my friend if we should dress up and if everyone else was and I think she said, "sure!" So of course I stressed over what we should be and how we were going to put it together. We quickly drove to D.I. and they had nothing. Then we went to Walmart and they had nothing left. As a last resort we tried Saver's because I had always found things for the Halloween dance there in High School. I picked up this little packet that had a devil's tale and horns, showed it to Brent and he complied. When we got home, I told him to get out some of our extra white sheets and start wrapping them around himself. He then proceeded to tell me that he thought it was really dumb that I was going to be the devil and him the angel. I told him it would be funnier than the other way around. After going back and forth, he finally conceded. He even let me put glitter around his eyes (click on the picture to zoom)-what a man! He complained the whole way there and I admit now that inside I felt bad for making my husband dress up like a girly angel. We had finally arrived ready to make our debut. We walk in and guess what? Everyone was wearing jeans!!! I felt so dumb. It was like we walked into a casual party wearing a formal and a tux, or vice versa maybe. The only person even remotely dressed up was my friend hosting it, who I think was wearing ladybug wings. Brent turned and glared at me and I could see in his eyes how embarrassed he was. We ended up getting a picture and having a really great time, but it is for this embarrassing experience that I still struggle with what to be if we have a Halloween party to go to and how much to dress up. 2 month checkup

After having to postpone Brooke's two month checkup for two weeks, (because of my own stupidity of putting the wrong doctor on her insurance card, which made the appointment a week later and then going to that appointment at 12 when it was at 10-hello! Where was my brain!) we finally made it this week. She weighed in at 12 pounds and was 23 inches long, both of which were in the 65th percentile. And she did so well with all the shots! She only screamed right when the nurse gave them and then she was fine after that. She's growing and progessing beautifully every day. She holds her head up so well and I can tell she is very close to sitting up. My favorite is when she coos and squeals at Brent and I. It's obvious she knows our faces very well. Oh, and she is giving us an average of 7 hours of sleep at night-we'll take it!
